Project Description

The statewide ITS deployment is an extensive, border-to-border fiber optic infrastructure. The fiber optic communications network supports bandwidth intensive ITS applications, such as closed-circuit cameras, to provide incident monitoring capabilities and vehicle detection units to monitor traffic flow.

The network also supports remotely deployed dynamic message signs, weather and pavement sensors, CVO sensors, highway advisory radio stations, and traffic signal controllers along frontage roads.

Optional technologies include dynamic trailblazer signs, flood detectors, data links to local military installations, teleconferencing capabilities, and last-mile hookups to satellite ODOT facilities. The network ties all of these technologies back to a traffic management center (TMC), where outputs can be monitored continuously.

Data from the TMC is then distributed to various agencies via secure, high-speed internet connections. Select data relevant to trip planning will also be made available to the public through the advanced traveler information system (ATIS).
